Gift Certificates is a plugin which allows you to manage and sell printable gift certificates on your website. You can set as many different types of certificates (campaigns) as you wish, sell them to your visitors, and accept payments via PayPal. It’s really easy: install the plugin and open new feature for your customers!

How the plugin works?

Let me describe front end workflow. Let’s imagine that I sell gift certificate for visiting museum, and you are the visitor who purchases the certificate.
1. You fill up the form and click “Continue” button. Then system asks you to confirm your action.
2. You click “Confirm” button and being redirected to PayPal, where you can pay for certificate(s).
3. After successfull payment you receive e-mail (it is sent to your PayPal e-mail address) which contains link to printable gift certificate.
4. You click this link and see printable gift certificate(s), like below:

5. You print this certificate and bring it to ticket booth of my museum.
6. I scan QR Code and being redirected to certificate page where I can see certificate details and manage it. (For example, I can see transaction details and mark certificates as redeemed).
7. Then I allow you to visit museum.

This is just particular situation how the plugin might be used. You can use it for selling any gift certificates. Only your imagination limits you!

BACK END

1. Upload folder “gift-certificates” (and its content) into your WordPress plugin folder (normally it is /wp-content/plugins/).

2. Go to WordPress dashboard and activate the plugin in plugin sections (like you do for any other plugins). Once activated, it will create a menu “Gift Certificates” in left side column in the admin area. This menu contains several menu items.

3. Click left side menu “Gift Certificates >>> Settings” and do required settings. Set your PayPal ID, currency, e-mail templates, etc. Please look at the screenshots below to see what kind of settings you can do there:

4. Click left side menu “Gift Certificates >>> Campaigns”. In this section you can create and manage types of gift certificates (campaigns). You must create at least one campaign.
Gift Certificate: Campaigns
Gift Certificate: Add New Campaign

5. Once campaign created look at column “Shortcode”. This is short code which you can insert into your posts or pages. The short code is like that: [gc-cаmpaign id=”XXX”] (XXX – is an ID of file).

6. Go to any post/page edit page and insert short code there.

That’s it!

If you have problems with these steps, please contact me and I’ll help you.

  1. Hello Ivan,

I would like to use your gift certificate plug-in, but I allow people to download a free file when they purchase a gift certificate. Also, is there any way for the buyer to select the number of gift certificates they want to purchase?

    • Hi Preston. Thanks for interesting in Gift Certificate.
      1. If you wish to distribute any file with gift certificate, you can include its download link into “Successful payment e-mail body”.
      2. Your customers can purchase up to 10 certificates at one transaction. Try demo above and click “Add recipient” button.

  2. Hi Ivan,

    Two questions:

    1. Is it possible to let the buyer choose a denomination for the Gift Certificate?

    2. Is there a way to display a logo on the printable Gift Certificate?

    Thanks.

    • Hi Ross. Current version doesn’t allow to choose a denomination for the Gift Certificate and display a logo on the printable Gift Certificate.
